| Hey guys, I am looking at purchasing some 6x9's for my 64 Impala. The variable in the situation is speaker mounting. I don't want to alter anything in the vehicle. These will only be temporary for a few years. I am interested to see if the bolt pattern is the same and if the edges of the rear sill will need to be modified. I understand the front mount will need modification and I am fine with that.
If someone owns a 64 Impala and knows today's 6x9s will work, That will suffice.

| It will have to be flush on top, not like must dial, and 3 ways today are designed with raised tweeters. See the bottom 3 photos here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Now a days 6x9's mount on top on screw hols in the enclosure or panel. Back then they mounted underneath a panel, rather than on top. I am concerned over the mounting though. I may just as well try one. The depth and design of speakers was different back then. If you saw my OEM speaker you would ask what it was. It doesn't even look like a traditional speaker. Te shape is odd, and the magnet was a square, encased in metal, like tin. | |

| I don't think you understand.
If I top mount the 6x9 I would have to cut a hold in my dashboard and dash cover.
Nuts and bolts would also require me to cut/drill into my dash and dash cover.
Let me get some photos here....

| That is the top of the dash. You can see a little bit of the wind shield on the top left of the photo. | |
