Subject: 2009 cobalt ss tc vs 2013 Evo X GSR (30 MPH Roll) Wed May 15, 2013 5:50 pm
Hey guys I traded in my 2009 cobalt ss turbo for a 2013 evo x gsr. I loved the cobalt and the easy power it made with only $2k worth of mods but I hated the front wheel drive It was only good from a 30+ roll race and even then I would spin and not get traction at least until 45 MPH. I also hate the cheap Chevrolet interior, it felt like it was going to fall apart every time I drove down most of our shitty streets we have. Anyways I've been wanting the EVO X since It came out in 2008, even though the cobalt ss was a lot faster from a roll the EVO X is a all around better car. I know the EVO IX is faster in the 1/4 and lighter, but like I said I have always wanted the Evo X and you can make any car fast with some mods. The dealership gave me a few days to take all the mods off before trading in the cobalt, so I asked a friend to drive my cobalt and do a quick pull. It was the very first time he drove the cobalt, and was impressed with the power! he drives a VW 4 door 1.8T with bolt ons. Sorry for the shitty recording, it better then nothing.
From a complete stop it was the exact opposite. AWD for the win! I'll upload that vid later.

^ yeah the cobalt was no joke from a roll, from what I seen on videos and cobaltss.net, with exact same mods the cobalt was making 310whp-330whp and 350tq-360wtq, not bag for less then $2k in mods and the sedan weights 3,000 pounds.
that would be cool, it took me a while to convince my wife. I have no regrets with the evo. Only thing that sucks is the small trunk.

I see you traded in El cajon Mitsubishi. All socal evo owners advice to engage Sam Smash in Southcoast Mitsubishi for trading or buying evos. I hope you got a good deal. For any other future evo owner, hit socalevo.net, everybody there advice to buy evos at southcoast mitsubishi.
it's great to hear you get the GSR version, 5 spd holds may more power and better for tracking or launch once in a while (Not always or everyday).
If you plan to run mods, I recommend hit RRE for power and tune package. they basically recommend intake, exhaust and tune to find hide power. 3 boost port solenoid is always advice to complete a tune which could reach 22-26 psi around 300 whp.
RRE usually take care if modding evos to keep factory warranty. Welcome to AWD power, I hope you don't feel bad for all drag scene here. AWD can stand a bit, but there is a lot better platform for drag racing , an evo not always the best in stock engine and drive train for drag racing.
I recommend uphill La Rumorosa to real test your car. if you want to roll uphill and downhill I'm in

Yeah I got a good Deal, they had the lowest price I've been looking for a few months. Plus they gave me 12k for my cobalt completely stock and I was selling it for 14k with all mods.
RRE where are they located? They do dyno tuning? Is that where you went?
its all good the evo is a lot better at drag then the cobalt. That would be cool to go to, let me break her in some more and I'm down to roll out there.
I'm going to sign up on that forum, thanks for the info. I have a lot of learning to do.
